Public transportation is the most low-cost option to move around in Kefalonia. The central bus station is located in Argostoli, but there are also stations in Sami, Poros and Lixouri. Itineraries are frequent, but additional routes are added to the timetables during the high season. The routes serve a large part of the island and so several areas can be reached via a public bus, including the infamous Fiscardo and Myrtos. During summer, the busiest tourist time, kefalonia bus connect Kefalonia Airport with Argostoli. Ktel, the bus operator, has been on the island for some 50 years, offering 42 inter-urban and 5 city bus services.
From Athens there are buses to Patras and Killini, two places from which direct ferries to Kefalonia leave. Flight time about 30 minutes and there are 2 times per week . Hi Holly, I am not sure how many stops the bus will do on its way to Fiskardo but I think 1 hour from Ag.Efimia to Fiskardo is a good guess. The bus stop is above Fiskardo, only a minute or two from the harbour. There is no direct connection from the airport to Sami so you have to go to Argostoli first and get the bus to Sami from there. The bus terminates at the central bus station, from where you can board another bus depending on where your accommodation is located. Last year in summer the Airport bus went every 30 minutes. But as far as I know you can only go towards Argostoli and have to get another bus to Sami from the central bus station.

We highly recommend to check through the competent office before leaving. From Killini there are ferry boats leaving to Zakynthos and the the trip duration is about 1 hour and a half. Car hire can be arrange for collection from the airport to save on taxi fares.

I have never seen a bus schedule like this on Kefalonia, allowing tourists in high season to see Kefalonia from South to North and East to West. No pitying smile anymore when guests ask for public transport. Just get out the timetables and design a tour to all the main towns on the island and quite a few sites and beaches.
Walk along the pedestrian walkway until you see the ticket office in the bus area. The ticket office is right next to where the buses are parked. A rental car allows you to explore the plethora of captivating beaches Kefalonia boasts; cosmopolitan or secluded, organized or pristine, sandy or pebbly. Having booked a rental car and having it delivered to you at the port is the easiest and most comfortable way to get to your hotel.
The airport transfer bus leaves from the front of the terminal building. You can either buy your ticket from the ticket office or buy it from the bus driver (around €6). The X93 departs from the Athens Airport around every 30 to 40 minutes . The buses will have “X93” scrolling on the front/back/side of it and the destination name in Greek (may not be in English- Greek name below). Inside offers a variety of services for passengers such as bars, banks, travel agencies, car rentals, tourist information office, police and large parking outside.
Taxi ranks can be found at Kefalonia airport, Argostoli (off the main square & by the ferry port), Lixouri , Sami, Fiskardo . If the bus times are critical to your journey KTEL suggest that you confirm the times in advance of your journey, here’s how to contact KTEL. The bus will then make several stops until the final destination, either in Argostoli or Lixouri, Kefalonia. Make sure to communicate with the bus driver and confirm your final destination. When you exit the baggage claim through the sliding doors you will be at the arrivals area.
